Being An Abel Bodied Runner

Simone Biles.jpg

Simone Biles at the age of 22 years old is the most decorated gymnast in the history of the sport!  This young woman can do things that would hurt most people to even think about!  But there is a reason as to why she can do what she can do.  She is a hard-working athlete that probably eats nasty yet healthy food!  She does this because she wants to take care of her body! I remember a very intense game of Guesstures where I pulled the word flip and I turned a cartwheel! My ankles screamed silently within my body. The reason for that being is because gravity is too strong on this planet. But seriously the reason is that I am not an able-bodied gymnast. To be able-bodied is to have a sound strong body. As runners in this Christian life we understand that our race is not a physical endeavor so we must focus instead on being Abel-bodied runners.  Hebrews 11:4 says…

4 By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was approved as a righteous man, because God approved his gifts, and even though he is dead, he still speaks through his faith.

The Hebrew writer states that Abel’s faithful sacrifice to God was approved of by God. When looking at the context we see that his sacrifice is not approved of by God because of the content or him being a physically superior human than Cain. Abel’s sacrifice testified of who God was. His actions spoke words. His actions stated that he relied on God to provide when his best was no longer present. Abel’s actions spoke “God I know I play a part in the means but I understand you’re the source. Take it all!” Cain’s actions spoke “We cool God! But not like that!”. And what is so special about Abel’s actions is that even though he was murdered his faithful actions made sure that he will never be silenced! Are you willing to be Abel bodied? It will take work! But an unrestrained love for God will lead to a voice of faith that will speak through generations.
